BAHAWALPUR, Nov 08 (APP): In line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, development projects worth Rs. 5.75 billion have been approved for Bahawalpur district under the “Saraken Bahal – Punjab Khushhal” (Roads Rehabilitation for a Prosperous Punjab) Program. The approval was granted during a meeting of the District Coordination Committee for Development, chaired by Mian Shoaib Owaisi, Member Provincial Assembly and Chairman of the Committee.
Under this program, the Highways Division Bahawalpur will carry out 86 development schemes aimed at the construction and rehabilitation of over 183 kilometers of roads across the district. The initiative is designed to improve travel facilities in both urban and rural areas, ensuring modern, high-quality road infrastructure for the public.
The project plan includes upgrading 30 roads using TST (Tack Seal Treatment) technology, while 56 roads will be fully carpeted to ensure smooth, durable, and efficient traffic flow.
The meeting, held at the Committee Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Bahawalpur, featured detailed briefings on the scope and financial structure of the approved projects. In attendance were Deputy Commissioner Dr. Farhan Farooq, MPAs Khalid Mahmood Jajja, Hasan Askari Sheikh, Sahibzada Ghazain Abbasi, Syed Amir Ali Shah, and Mian Shoaib Owaisi, alongside other key representatives.
It was shared during the briefing that the total road length to be covered under these schemes is 183.29 kilometers, with an estimated construction and rehabilitation cost of Rs. 4.36 billion. With additional expenditures for tuff paving and drainage improvements, the total project cost amounts to Rs. 5.75 billion.
Upon completion, these road improvements are expected to benefit both urban and rural residents of Bahawalpur by providing safer, smoother, and more reliable road networks. The enhanced infrastructure is set to improve local connectivity, support public welfare, and contribute to the growth of the regional economy.
