MULTAN, Nov 08 (APP): The Multan Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry, in collaboration with the Hadiya Foundation, organized an awareness walk on National Thalassemia Day.
The walk began at Nawan Shehar Chowk and concluded in front of the Multan Press Club, drawing a large crowd of citizens, social activists, students, and Thalassemia fighters, all carrying banners and placards with awareness messages.
Key figures leading the walk included Hafiz Umair Saeed, President of the Multan Chamber, Sheikh Faisal Saeed, Founding President, Hassan Saeed, President of Hadiya Foundation, as well as former presidents of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mian Rashid Iqbal and Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh.
Addressing the media, Hafiz Umair Saeed emphasized that thalassemia is a serious hereditary disease that can be prevented through public awareness, highlighting the importance of premarital blood screening to safeguard future generations. He reiterated the Multan Chamber’s commitment to expanding its social welfare efforts and awareness campaigns.
Sheikh Faisal Saeed also spoke out on behalf of thalassemia patients, stressing the need for special attention and collective action to support their treatment and rehabilitation. He pointed out that 95% of people remain unaware of the disease, making youth education critical in combating it.
Hassan Saeed of the Hadiya Foundation shared that the organization provides treatment support, blood donations, and ongoing awareness efforts for Thalassemia patients. He expressed the foundation’s determination to continue its mission until Pakistan is free from Thalassemia.
Former Chamber President Mian Rashid Iqbal called for mandatory premarital testing and ongoing government awareness initiatives, while Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh urged collaboration among educational institutions, media, and civil society to combat Thalassemia and promote unity.
