RAWALPINDI, Nov 07 (APP):Twenty-one persons with disabilities received Himmat Cards under the Punjab Government’s welfare scheme during a distribution ceremony held at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Murree on Friday.
The ceremony was organised on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The Assistant Commissioner Murree, accompanied by Assistant Director, Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Murree, Ghalib Abbasi, handed over the cards to the beneficiaries. A representative of the Bank of Punjab disbursed Rs10,500 in cash as the first installment to each card holder.
Speaking on the occasion, the assistant commissioner said the programme was an important initiative aimed at promoting economic independence and social protection for persons with disabilities.
The AC added that financial assistance of Rs10,500 would be provided on a quarterly basis, which beneficiaries would later be able to withdraw using their ATM cards.
Some 235 persons with disabilities had already received Himmat Cards in the first two phases of the programme, while 51 more got the same during the third phase.
Beneficiaries thanked the Punjab Government and the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Department, saying the Himmat Card scheme would offer meaningful financial support and help them lead dignified lives.
