FAISALABAD, Nov 06 (APP):University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) in collaboration with Punjab Agriculture Extension Department is launching 9-day wheat campaign from November 08 to November 16 and thousands of university students will visit farmers’ fields for disseminating the experts’ recommendations in six divisions of the Punjab.
UAF spokesman said here on Thursday that Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo has directed to ensure the foolproof arrangements for the campaign meant to increase per acre wheat productivity.
UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali has constituted the university committees whereas Dean Agriculture Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza is the focal person of this campaign.
The students of BS (5th and 7th semester) and Postgraduate (1st to 3rd) semesters of the faculties including Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Agri. Engr. & Tech and Faculty of Animal Husbandry will visit Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha and Sahiwal divisions.
The students under the supervisions of experts will visit farmers’ fields in the various villages of the said divisions to disseminate experts’ recommendations in order to increase per acre productivity.
Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that the campaign would also help the students get first-hand knowledge of on-fields and farming community problems also. In the drive, they will persuade the farmers about latest practices, certified seeds, balanced usage of fertilizer and others, he added.
He said that like the previous years, the university is committed to reaching out to the farming community for the purpose. He said that agriculture on a scientific basis is the need of the hour for agricultural revolution by ensuring increase in per acre production. It is inevitable to bring the latest agricultural technology to the doorstep of the farmers, he added.
