LAHORE, Nov 06 (APP): Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the Health Department is taking concrete measures to prevent water-borne diseases across the province.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education on Thursday. Punjab Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood Khan also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, preventive measures against water-borne diseases were reviewed, along with the cleanliness situation of various drains, including the Hadiyara Drain. Dean of the Institute of Public Health (IPH) Professor Saira Afzal presented a detailed report on the matter. It was decided that a comprehensive survey of Lahore, including the Hadiyara Drain, will be conducted.
The minister said that a high-level committee comprising senior professors and health experts has been formed to oversee preventive efforts. Representatives from the district administration, WASA, Environment Department, and other relevant institutions will also be part of the committee. He added that after completing the research and survey, a comprehensive report will be presented to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Operations Zanbila Irfan, Additional Secretary Technical Dr. Muhammad Waseem, Dean IPH Professor Saira Afzal, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, Additional Secretary Ameer Muhammad, Deputy Secretary Abdul Rehman, and other senior officers.
