Livestock plays vital role for country’s GDP, food security

LAHORE, Nov 06 (APP):Punjab Livestock Minister Ashiq Hussain Kirmani has said that livestock sector plays vital role in country’s GDP, employment and food security.
According to official sources here on Thursday, he said this while addressing participants of workshop on ‘Role of government in the development of Livestock’. He said that interest free loan of Rs. 540,000 was being provided to each farmer for purchase of livestock feed. In a period of two years, loan worth Rs 11 billion had been provided, he said.
The minister said that livestock stakeholders conferences would be organized in big cities of Punjab. He further said that almost 2.2 million animals had been rescued from flood hit areas and vaccinated. He said, “Country’s first disease free zone is going to be set up in Bahawalnagar.”
Ashiq Kirmani said that a budget of Rs. 30 billion had been set aside for agriculture sector mechanization while work was being done on mechanization of livestock sector.
