DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 06 (APP): A total of 121 rural women received free desktop computers as the second and third phases of the ‘Main Digital’ programme was launched in Dera Ghazi Khan under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s ‘Hunarmand Naujawan’ programme.
The initiative aims to equip women in rural areas with digital skills, enabling them to learn and earn from home.
The event was organised by the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) at a local hotel, brought together participants from Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Rajanpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan. Each participant was selected on merit and will undergo a six-month online training course focused on digital marketing, English language, e-commerce, basic IT skills, and content creation.
Speaking on the occasion, Head of Digital Programs Mirza Akbar Hussain, said that the enthusiasm shown by the participants was remarkable.
“The passion of rural women, especially those using a computer for the first time, is the real success of this program. It was not just about training but it was about transforming mindsets and rebuilding confidence, opening new digital doors for women in remote areas,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer (CRO) PSDF Ahmad Khan emphasized that the “Main Digital” program was not only providing digital skills but also creating income-generating opportunities for women. “This initiative will empower women and strengthen their role in Pakistan’s growing digital economy,” he stated.
Following the success of Phase 1, which created new online employment opportunities for women, Phases II and III are expanding the program’s reach to additional districts. The initiative continues to serve as a vital step toward bridging the digital divide and promoting women’s inclusion in Punjab’s evolving digital landscape.
