Strategic meeting on Polio Eradication for Greater Peshawar held

PESHAWAR, Nov 06 (APP): A high-level strategic meeting for Greater Peshawar was held at the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) Peshawar, chaired by Shafiullah Khan, Additional Secretary Health/EOC Coordinator.
According to a press release, the meeting was attended by CDC Advisor Dr Rana Safdar, Dr Shahid, Dr Mumtaz Lagari, and Dr Fawad from the National EOC, along with the Deputy Coordinator EOC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, provincial team leads from WHO, UNICEF, and NSTOP, Greater Peshawar Area Coordinators, NSTOP officers, and the DEOC Core Team, who joined virtually.
The primary objective of the meeting was to review district performance and finalize the action plan for the upcoming Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIAs), with a focused vision of achieving a Polio-Free Peshawar.
Participants analysed recent campaign outcomes, assessed challenges in high-risk union councils, and discussed targeted strategies to enhance campaign quality, improve community engagement, and strengthen surveillance indicators.
Addressing the participants, Shafiullah Khan underscored the importance of collective responsibility and sustained commitment from all partners to interrupt the remaining chains of poliovirus transmission.
He reiterated that coordinated field operations, strong accountability, and active community participation are crucial to protect every child and achieve a polio-free Peshawar.
CDC Advisor Dr Rana Safdar commended the progress made by the provincial and district teams and emphasized the significance of data-driven microplanning and evidence-based decision-making.
He stressed that persistent, adaptive strategies combined with strong collaboration among partners will be key to attaining and maintaining a polio-free status for Peshawar.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to intensify efforts and work in close coordination to transform the vision of a Polio-Free Peshawar into a lasting reality.
