ISLAMABAD, Nov 06 (APP): The Pakistan–Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by Syed Naveed Qamar, on Thursday met with an Iranian parliamentary delegation headed by Fida Hussain Maliki to reaffirm historic ties and explore enhanced cooperation, with a focus on expanding cultural and economic linkages to promote regional peace and prosperity.
Welcoming the visiting delegation, Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA and Convener of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan–Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), extended warm greetings on behalf of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and religious ties that continue to strengthen the bond between Pakistan and Iran.
From Iranian side, Fida Hussain Maliki, Head of the Iran–Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group emphasized the significance of sustained parliamentary exchanges as an institutional mechanism to promote dialogue, enhance people-to-people linkages and strengthen cooperation in trade, energy, education and culture. He further underscored that Pakistan and Iran, as neighboring countries with shared aspirations for regional peace and prosperity, must continue to collaborate in overcoming common challenges.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to move forward on key bilateral initiatives, expansion of inter-governmental trade and practical implementation of signed agreements. He also proposed regular reciprocal visits to ensure continuity of bilateral cooperation.
Fida Hussain Maliki expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Convener and members of the PFG. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and called for the expansion of barter trade mechanisms, joint border markets and the development of industrial and trade zones.
He emphasized the need to enhance the present trade volume through practical measures and improved connectivity, including air links and maritime routes between both countries.
Maliki highlighted the brotherly relations rooted in shared history and mutual respect. He acknowledged Pakistan’s principled stance and the resolutions passed by both Houses of Parliament during the recent twelve-day conflict involving Iran.
He also appreciated Pakistan’s continued and vocal support for the people of Gaza. The delegation paid tribute to Allama Muhammad Iqbal, acknowledging his intellectual contributions and legacy in the Muslim world.
Both sides agreed on the importance of developing a structured framework of cooperation to ensure effective implementation of bilateral initiatives. They noted that consistent institutional dialogue, timely communication and enhanced coordination between the Secretariats of the two Friendship Groups were essential to achieving tangible outcomes.
Members of the Executive Committee present included Ms. Tahira Aurangzeb, Syed Ali Qasim Gillani, Pullain Baloch, Amjad Ali Khan and Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui. The Iranian parliamentary delegation included Mohammad Nour Dehghani, Rahmadel Bamiri, Mehrdad Goodarzvand Chegini and Fazlollah Ranjbar.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to regional peace, stability and prosperity. They emphasized that the historic friendship between Pakistan and Iran would continue to strengthen through practical, results-oriented parliamentary cooperation and enhanced trade, economic and cultural linkages.
