KARACHI, Nov 05 (APP):A four-member delegation of the All Karachi Hotels and Restaurants Welfare Association, led by President Abdul Latif Kakar, called on Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi here at his office on Wednesday.
The delegation praised the Karachi administration’s campaign against roadside tea shops and hotels, saying that it is a good effort to address the issue of encroachment created by the tea shops and hotels, causing traffic congestion in the city. They expressed their support for the campaign and willingness to cooperate with the administration for the benefit of the city.
Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi said that the ongoing campaign is part of the government’s policy to address urban issues by preventing the proliferation of tea shops on footpaths and road sides and keeping them within their limits. He emphasized that establishing hotels and tea shops on footpaths and road sides is illegal and causes difficulties for citizens and traffic.
The Commissioner said that the current action is against those who have established encroachments, not against any business activity. The administration aims to ensure that everyone operates within the law and cooperates with the Karachi administration, he said.
The meeting decided that, with the cooperation of the Hotels Association, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) would be developed for tea shops and hotels within the next two days. After written assurance of compliance with the SOPs, permission from the shop owners would be granted to reopen their closed tea shops and hotels.
