Sugarcane crushing to commence from November 15: Rana Tanveer

ISLAMABAD, Nov 5 (APP):Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain Wednesday said that the sugar crushing season across the country will commence from November 15 in order to ensure the proper rate of return of the growers as well as maintaining the smooth supply of commodity.
The decision to effect was taken in the meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board, which met here under the chairmanship of Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, said a press release.
The delegation of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) led by Chaudhary Zaka Ashraf, along with Cane Commissioners from all provinces, and representatives from the Ministry of Industries and Production, Ministry of Commerce, and other relevant stakeholders attended the meeting.
After detailed consultations, it was decided that the sugar crushing season across the country will commence from November 15, 2025. The minister said that the decision has been made after comprehensive consultations with all provinces and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association to ensure that sugarcane growers do not face any difficulties.
The minister emphasized that strict action will be taken against any sugar mill that fails to start crushing on the prescribed date. He added, “Payment of dues to the farmers will be ensured before the commencement of crushing. The government is making all decisions in the best interest of farmers to prevent their exploitation.”
He also highlighted that timely crushing will not only facilitate sugarcane growers but also ensure the smooth and timely availability of sugar in the market. He said that this decision has been taken in the interest of farmers and to guarantee the timely supply of sugar in the market.
The participants of the meeting welcomed the decision and appreciated the government’s timely intervention. Rana Tanveer Hussain directed provincial authorities to ensure strict monitoring of all sugar mills to safeguard the rights of farmers.
