ISLAMABAD, Nov 05 (APP):The federal capital is a buzz with anticipation as the countdown begins for Lok Mela 2025, Pakistan’s grand annual celebration of folk art, music, and heritage.
The festival grounds at Lok Virsa have turned into a vibrant hive of activity, with artisans, performers, and organizers giving final touches to what promises to be a spectacular showcase of the country’s cultural diversity.
Under the golden hues of autumn, the venue echoes with the rhythm of dhols, the clinking of craftwork, and the aroma of regional cuisines-all signaling the approach of Pakistan’s most awaited folk festival.
Organized by the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) under the National Heritage and Culture Division, the ten-day festival will be held from November 07 to 16, bringing together artists and performers from every corner of the country under this year’s theme: “Celebrate Pakistan’s Colors, Crafts, and Culture – All in One Place.”
Distinctive pavilions representing Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir are being adorned to highlight regional identities.
Artisans are preparing intricate displays of embroidery, pottery, mirror work, and jewelry, while folk musicians rehearse for their nightly performances.
The International Pavilion, a major attraction in previous years, will be bigger than ever in 2025, featuring around a dozen participating countries presenting their crafts and cultural performances alongside Pakistani counterparts.
Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khichi called Lok Mela a celebration of Pakistan’s creative strength and unity.
“It’s not merely a festival — it’s the living heartbeat of our identity,” he said.
Evenings at the festival will feature Cultural Nights devoted to the music and dance traditions of each region. The event will open on November 7 with a grand Inaugural Ceremony and Qawwali Night, followed by Balochistan, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir Nights, before concluding on November 16 with a Grand Musical Closing Ceremony.
Executive Director Lok Virsa Dr. Muhammad Waqas Saleem said that since 1981, Lok Mela has symbolized Pakistan’s resilience and cultural continuity.
“This is where artisans tell the story of Pakistan through color, sound, and craft,” he added.
Decorated with regional motifs and handcrafted installations, the festival grounds will also host food courts offering sajji, chapli kebab, haleem, biryani, and jalebi, giving visitors a taste of Pakistan’s culinary richness.
With enhanced facilities, family-friendly spaces, and an atmosphere of festivity, Lok Mela 2025 is set to once again turn Islamabad into a living celebration of Pakistan’s heritage, creativity, and unity in diversity.
