LAHORE, Nov 05 (APP):The Punjab government on Wednesday extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another 30 days, continuing the ban on the use of wheat in poultry feed production to ensure uninterrupted supply of wheat, flour and bread for human consumption.
According to a spokesperson for the Home Department Punjab, the decision was taken to prevent potential wheat shortages and to ensure that wheat remains available for food-grade use only.
As per the Home secretary’s directive, wheat may now only be utilized in flour mills for the production of flour.
The spokesperson stated that feed mills in Punjab currently hold more than 100,000 metric tons of wheat, which was intended to be used for poultry feed.
The decision follows a report from the secretary price control indicating that some feed mills were preparing to divert wheat for non-food purposes.
The spokesperson emphasized that wheat was a staple food for human consumption and should be reserved exclusively for flour production.
The ban has therefore been extended for an additional 30 days under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure,1898.
According to the notification issued by the department, the restrictions will remain in effect until Monday, December 1.
The Home secretary directed that the order be widely publicized through the official gazette, newspapers and electronic media for public awareness.
