HYDERABAD, Nov 05 (APP):An awareness rally regarding “Data Fest 2025” was organized at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam under the auspices of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Hyderabad Region. The rally was attended by Statistical Officer Syed Sabir Ali Shah, SAU faculty members Dr. Shafique Ahmed Memon, Dr. Sohail Ahmed Otho, retired Professor Mir Muzafar Ali Talpur and several others. A large number of teachers, students and social representatives also participated in the event.
According to the SAU spokesperson, the rally passed through various departments and culminated at the Faculty of Crop Protection, where Syed Sabir Ali Shah addressed the participants. He stated that the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics will organize a two-day national event, “Data Fest 2025”, in Islamabad on November 11–12, which will bring together students and experts from various educational and research institutions across the country.
He said the purpose of the rally was to raise awareness among students and local professionals about the importance of data in national development and decision-making.
Syed Sabir Ali Shah highlighted that the PBS plays a vital role in national development and policy formulation, as no effective strategy can be designed without reliable data. He emphasized that data collection and surveys contribute significantly to policy making, economic management, equitable resource distribution, monitoring and evaluation of development projects, academic research and enhancing governmental transparency and accountability.
Addressing the rally, Dr. Shafique Ahmed Memon and Dr. Sohail Ahmed Otho said that accurate data forms the foundation for evidence-based policy making, which can help alleviate poverty and improve sectors like education and health. They added that economic data assists in managing inflation, production and employment more efficiently.
They further noted that Sindh Agriculture University was playing an active role in data-driven research by employing various modern tools and methodologies for data collection and analysis.
