Punjab Police register 24 cases over smog violation in 24 hours

LAHORE, Nov 04 (APP):Punjab Police registered 24 cases, arrested several violators, and imposed fines exceeding Rs. 500,000 during the last 24 hours as part of its province-wide crackdown to prevent smog, control air pollution, and protect the environment.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, 217 individuals were fined while nine were issued warnings in various districts, including Lahore. A total of 66 violations were reported for burning crop residue, 74 for smoke-emitting vehicles, and five for brick kiln violations.
The spokesperson added that during the current year, 2,074 cases have been registered and 1,879 violators arrested in the ongoing anti-smog campaign. Fines exceeding Rs. 217.5 million have been imposed on 85,455 individuals, while more than 11,000 have been issued warnings. Violations included 863 cases of crop residue burning, 51,332 of smoke-emitting vehicles, 1,701 industrial activities, and 3,289 related to brick kilns.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed officers to further intensify the anti-smog crackdown on highways, industrial areas, agricultural lands, and other hotspots. He emphasised that strict and immediate action must be taken under a zero-tolerance policy against those violating smog SOPs.
