LAHORE, Nov 04 (APP): An enforcement team from the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) discarded 2,000 litres of adulterated milk while sealing two dairy shops and one wholesale trader during extensive operations in Amin Park, Rizwan Chowk, and Kalma Chowk. The teams also registered an FIR against the violators.
The action was taken by the food safety team under the direction of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid after milk samples failed quality checks. The DG revealed that prohibited substances, including water and vegetable fat, were detected in the milk.
He further stated that earlier directives had been ignored, and poor hygienic conditions were found during the inspection. Additionally, the wholesale trader was sealed for selling skimmed milk powder without prior approval. Mandatory records, required documents, and workers’ medical certificates were also missing.
From August 1 until now, PFA has inspected over 155,000 dairy shops and suppliers, registering 629 FIRs. During this period, a total of 74,525,000 litres of milk were examined, with 1,549,274 litres discarded due to adulteration.
The DG emphasized that PFA’s round-the-clock operations are ongoing to safeguard public health. He warned that compliance with food safety regulations is mandatory for all food business operators across Punjab, and those who jeopardize public health will not be shown leniency.
He also appealed to the public to assist the PFA in combating the adulteration mafia by reporting any complaints to the PFA helpline at 1223.
