KHANEWAL, Nov 04 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Dr. Salma Suleman has issued strict directives to tackle the growing smog issue in the district, calling for enhanced awareness and enforcement campaigns across all departments.
During a meeting on anti-smog measures, Dr. Suleman stressed that construction debris left outside buildings and uncovered sand trolleys entering urban areas will no longer be tolerated. She also made it clear that no leniency would be shown to farmers burning paddy residue, labeling it as a major environmental threat.
Deputy Director of the Environment Protection Department, Engineer Sarfraz Anjum, briefed the meeting on the ongoing operations targeting brick kilns and industrial units that are violating environmental regulations.
Dr. Suleman further emphasized that garbage burning is strictly prohibited throughout the district. She also directed the traffic police and transport authority to take decisive action against vehicles emitting smoke, in a bid to reduce air pollution and improve air quality in the region.
