Action intensified against profiteers across Rawalpindi Distt as magistrates conduct over 33,000 inspections

RAWALPINDI, Nov 04 (APP): The administration has intensified action against profiteers across the Rawalpindi District, with price control magistrates conducting more than 33,000 inspections and penalising dozens of violators during the past 24 hours.
It was told during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Rawalpindi Engr Aamir Khattak on essential commodity prices that a total of 33,784 inspections were carried out across the district during the past 24 hours. Fifty-five violations of overpricing were found during these inspections, leading to fines amounting to Rs333,500. Three individuals were arrested and one shop was sealed.
In Gujar Khan, 6,869 inspections were carried out, during which one violation was found and a fine of Rs2,000 was imposed. In Kahuta, five violations were detected during 4,363 inspections with fines totalling Rs22,000. Kallar Syedan saw 2,689 inspections, four violations and Rs6,500 in fines.
In Rawalpindi Cantonment, eight violations were detected during 4,773 inspections with penalties of Rs51,000, while Rawalpindi City recorded 7,144 inspections, 31 violations, fines of Rs176,500, one shop sealed and three arrests. Rawalpindi Saddar recorded 3,778 inspections, two violations and Rs8,500 in fines.
In Taxila, four violations were found during 4,168 inspections with fines of Rs67,000.
Commissioner Khattak said that stabilising prices remained the government’s foremost priority. He directed all price control magistrates to maintain an active field presence and ensure strict check and balance.
“Overcharging and profiteering will not be tolerated, and stern action must be taken without discrimination,” he added, emphasising close monitoring of tomato prices in particular.
The commissioner instructed all magistrates to continue action against profiteers across the district to ensure essential items remain available to the public at fair prices.
