Election tribunal dismisses petition challenging Maryam Nawaz’s victory

LAHORE, Nov 03 (APP): An election tribunal has dismissed the election petition filed against the victory of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz from PP-159.
The tribunal, headed by Rana Zahid Mehmood, announced its reserved verdict on the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Mehar Sharafat Ali, who had contested the 2024 general elections against Maryam Nawaz.
In its judgment released here on Monday, the tribunal observed that the petitioner failed to meet the procedural requirements under Rule 144 of the Election Act, 2017. It noted that the election petition did not bear signatures on every page, while the affidavit lacked the petitioner’s and his father’s names on the page verified by the oath commissioner.
The tribunal ruled that due to these deficiencies, the petition could not be taken up for a formal trial and was therefore dismissed.
Earlier, the tribunal had reserved its verdict after completion of arguments by counsel for Maryam Nawaz.
