PESHAWAR, Nov 03 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi here on Monday directed legislation for the timely completion of all energy projects l.
He was pressing over an important meeting of the Department of Energy and Power here.
Major decisions to prevent delays in public projects were approved. The CM issues directive to introduce legislation ensuring adherence to set timelines for all projects.
Strict penalties will be proposed for those responsible for delays. Negligence in public projects will not be tolerated. A zero-tolerance policy will be enforced, said Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
It was decided to raise federal-level energy sector issues more effectively. Relevant departments were instructed to follow up on pending matters in the Council of Common Interests and to formally correspond with the federal government for the protection of provincial rights.
Muhammad Sohail Afridi said an important decision was made for the development of the industrial sector in the province. The Chief Minister directed the preparation of plans for the transmission and distribution of electricity from local power plants.
Electricity will be provided to local industries at concessional rates. The development of industries is essential for economic recovery and job creation.
The Department of Energy briefed the Chief Minister on projects and subsidiary institutions.
Currently, 10,625 megawatts of electricity are being generated from hydropower across the country — 6,000 megawatts from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone. PEDO’s 10 projects generate more than 14 billion rupees annually.
Three projects with a total capacity of 452 megawatts are under construction, expected to yield an annual revenue of 26 billion rupees.
Procurement is underway for four projects totaling 331 megawatts, from which 30 billion rupees in annual income is expected. Additionally, three new projects launched this year are projected to generate an extra 4 billion rupees in revenue.
