KARACHI, Nov 01 (APP):Federal Secretary for Science and Technology, Shahid Iqbal Baloch, visited the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) Headquarters in Karachi on Friday and chaired a comprehensive Directors’ meeting to assess the Authority’s overall performance, operational efficiency, and commitment to national quality standards.
The Federal Secretary also marked his visit by planting a tree at the Headquarters, signifying the
commitment to environmental responsibility.
PSQCA Secretary, A.K. Rind, briefed the Secretary on the performance of the Standards and Administration wings, highlighting recent achievements and operational challenges.
Shahid Iqbal showed a keen interest in the quality assurance mechanisms, inquiring specifically about the
testing capacity of the Quality Control Center (QCC) labs for a wide range of products. These included water, sugar, beverages, toothpastes, hair color, cooking oil, poultry feed, fertilizer, construction materials, textiles, tires, paper, colors, mechanical instruments, steel, PVC pipes, and cement.
Addressing the senior management, Secretary Baloch outlined a resolute commitment to product safety
and compliance. He emphasized that the government has adopted a “zero tolerance” policy for non-licensed products and industries, stressing the urgent need for full compliance regarding the registration and conformity assessment of all food and non-food items under PSQCA’s mandate.
The Federal Secretary underscored the importance of internal organizational strength. He mandated that employee health is a top priority, stating that PSQCA must ensure the welfare of its staff.
He also directed the Authority’s leadership to ensure that all organizational components and systems are upgraded in line with international best practices.
