DG Health visits KMU Mobile and Provincial Public Health laboratories

PESHAWAR, Oct 30 (APP): Director General Health Services Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Shahid Younas on Thursday visited the Khyber Medical University (KMU) Mobile and Provincial Public Health Laboratories in Peshawar.
During the visit, Dr Yasir Yousafzai, Director of the Provincial Public Health Reference Laboratory (PPHRL), briefed the DG Health on the laboratory’s performance.
He informed that the KMU Mobile Laboratory, which was deployed for 62 days in Peer Baba, District Buner, carried out more than 10,000 diagnostic tests to detect infectious diseases in flood-affected areas.
The testing played a crucial role in early diagnosis and prevention of post-flood epidemics, in collaboration with the District Health Administration Buner and other departments.
Dr Shahid Younas commended the efforts of KMU and PPHRL teams for their vital contribution to strengthening the province’s public health system.
He praised the innovative use of mobile laboratory technology, which has expanded diagnostic coverage and improved disease surveillance in remote regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The DG Health also visited the Provincial Public Health Reference Laboratory at KMU, where he reviewed the advanced diagnostic equipment provided under the Federal Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System (IDSRS).
On this occasion, Dr Ali ur Rehman, Project Director IDSRS, officially handed over the new laboratory equipment to the Director PPHRL.
The new equipment aims at further enhancing the laboratory’s diagnostic capacity and ensure timely detection and reporting of infectious diseases.
Inspecting various sections of the laboratory, Dr Shahid Younas expressed satisfaction over the diagnostic and testing standards.
He emphasized that close coordination between public and private diagnostic institutions is key to developing a resilient and efficient public health system in the province.
