RAWALPINDI, Oct 30 (APP): The Punjab Bar Council elections will be held on Saturday simultaneously across all divisions in Punjab, where lawyers will elect new leadership for the next five years at divisional and district levels.
In the Rawalpindi Division, a total of 34 candidates are contesting for eight seats in the Punjab Bar Council. Over 12,000 male and female lawyers across the division will vote to their reps for eight seats, said a press release issued here Thursday.
For overseeing the electoral process, 14 Additional District and Sessions Judges, two Senior Civil Judges, and three Civil Judges have been appointed as returning officers at the district headquarters in Rawalpindi and its five sub-divisions.
District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi, Abid Raza Abid, has issued a directive to the City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi for foolproof security arrangements during polling.
According to the distribution of seats, for five seats in Rawalpindi district 24 candidates are contesting the elections, while one seat each in Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal will have 10, 3, and 4 candidates respectively.
The candidates for the five seats in Rawalpindi district include Abrar Ahmed, Arshad Mahmood Janjua, Ajmal Raza Bhatti, Asif Tufail Awan, Chaudhry Asim Yaqoob, Sardar Behzaad Akram, Fakhar Abbas, Farooq Bhatti, Fakhar Hayat, Syed Hassan Abbas, Haider Mahmood Mirza, Ijaz Hussain, Muhammad Faisal, Muhammad Imtiaz, Nahid Ayub Raja, Chaudhry Qaiser Mushtaq, Samina Jadoon, Shahid Mahmood Abbasi, Shahid Mahmood Langrial, Samar Naveed, Tasleem Abbasi, Chaudhry Tajak, Tariq Mahmood, and Zahir Hassan Shah.
For the single seat in Chakwal, the contenders are Malik Mazhar Hussain, Talat Mahmood, Raja Zahoor, and Zahir Sidqal. In Attock district, the race is between Rizwan Raja, Syed Faisal Bukhari, and Sardar Tauseef. For Jhelum district’s seat, the candidates are Chaudhry Abdul Latif, Raja Gul Zaman, and Ikram ul Haq Sheikh.
In this regard, District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi Abid Raza Abid has appointed returning officers at the district headquarters, including Additional District and Sessions Judges Rana Sohail, Shams Hassan Khan Sial, Ikram ul Haq Chaudhry, Sahibzada Naqeeb Shehzad, Malik Noor Khan, Khalid Bashir, Khalid Wazir, Majid Hassan Gadi, and Maqsood Ahmed Qureshi; Senior Civil Judges Rawalpindi Waqar Hussain Gondal and Waqar Ahmed; and Civil Judges Rawalpindi Imtiaz Hussain, Shahid Nasib, and Jahangzeb Aman Hafiz.
Similarly, for sub-division Gujar Khan, Additional District and Sessions Judge Gujar Khan Abdullah Usman; for sub-division Kahuta, Additional District and Sessions Judge Kahuta Khurshid Alam Bhatti, for sub-division Kallar Syedan, Additional District and Sessions Judge Kallar Syedan Jahangir Ali Gondal; for sub-division Murree, Additional District and Sessions Judge Murree Muhammad Azfar; and for sub-division Taxila, Additional District and Sessions Judge Taxila Basit Saleem.
District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi Abid Raza Abid has also sent a letter to CPO Rawalpindi for effective and foolproof security arrangements during polling.
