ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP): The Supreme Court on Thursday disposed of an appeal filed by the Customs authorities seeking recovery of currency from an Afghan citizen.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi heard the case. During the proceedings, counsel for the Customs department, Yusuf Ali, submitted that the Afghan national, Mir Islam Ilyas, from whom the department intended to recover the currency, had already returned to Afghanistan.
The counsel informed the court that Mir Islam Ilyas had entered Pakistan from Afghanistan in 2023. Earlier, both the tribunal and the Islamabad High Court had dismissed the Customs department’s plea for currency recovery, following which Customs authorities approached the Supreme Court.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the apex court disposed of the appeal filed by the Customs department.
