ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP):Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Hussain Magsi Thursday said that equipping Pakistan’s youth with modern scientific and technological skills is essential for the country’s progress.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the STEM FAB Lab established by the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) at the Department of Chemistry, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad.
Addressing the ceremony, the minister said, “The world is advancing rapidly in science and technology and Pakistan must move forward with the same resolve to secure its place among progressive nations.”
He stressed that Pakistan’s future development is deeply linked with science, research, and innovation.
Khalid Magsi announced that modern scientific laboratories will be set up in every district to strengthen STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and foster innovation among students.
The STEM FAB Lab initiative, launched by the Pakistan Science Foundation, aims to revolutionize science education through hands-on learning, digital fabrication, and entrepreneurship.
In its first phase, 57 FAB Labs will be established in higher secondary schools, cadet colleges, universities, and science centers nationwide.
The initiative focuses on providing national and international STEM training programs for science teachers and educators and introducing modern pedagogical approaches such as Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE).
It will offer practical learning experiences to enhance students’ analytical and problem-solving skills and develop their entrepreneurial abilities so they can become job creators rather than job seekers.
Under this program, 200 trained STEM teachers will be deployed in selected institutions, and digital fabrication labs equipped with advanced tools will be established.
The initiative also includes the introduction of an online Learning Management System (LMS) that will feature lectures, documentaries, projects, simulations, and interactive materials to support teachers and students in STEM activities.
The minister lauded the Pakistan Science Foundation for promoting scientific literacy and innovation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding STEM education across the country, empowering youth, and building a science-driven, knowledge-based economy.
