MULTAN, Oct 30 (APP):The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has completed the plantation of more than 40 trees along the route from Chowk Kumharanwala to Vehari Chowk, marking the start of a large-scale green initiative aimed at combating smog and enhancing the city’s beauty.
Talking to journalists on Thursday, PHA Director General Kareem Bukhsh said the plantation drive would continue with full momentum across green belts, intersections, and public spaces throughout the city.
He said the campaign had been launched at the onset of winter in response to the City District Government’s call to mitigate the effects of smog and improve air quality.
Kareem Bukhsh added that the initiative was part of the “Green Vision” of Punjab Chief Minister, who had directed all departments to take concrete measures to make cities cleaner and greener.
He said PHA was working under the supervision of Commissioner Multan Division Amir Karim Khan to transform Multan into a model green city.
Apart from planting shade and fruit-bearing trees, PHA teams have also begun daily water sprinkling along roadsides and on dry soil to control dust pollution. Green belts are being refilled with fresh soil, while trimming, maintenance, and other beautification works are being carried out regularly.
“PHA is going the extra mile to make the city clean and pollution-free. We are determined to expand the plantation drive in November and December to achieve our target of turning Multan into a green zone,” the DG said.
He added that public participation would be encouraged through awareness campaigns and community-based plantation activities to ensure the sustainability and long-term impact of the initiative.
