MIRPUR ( AJK), Oct 30 (APP):The police have destroyed huge catches of confiscated illicit drugs including liquor, heroine, hashish in presence of print and electronic media staffers.
Mirpur AJK, SSP, Khurram Iqbal directly supervised the process of destruction of thousands of bottles of illicit foreign and local-made liquor, 120 kg of hashish, 6 kg of heroin and ice, including hundreds of liters of liquor, seized in several drug trafficking cases registered in various police stations of the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Raja Omar Tariq and the police officers were also present on this occasion.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mirpur, Khurram Iqbal told media persons on this occasion that more than two and a half maunds of hashish, four thousand bottles of liquor, ice and hundreds of liters of open liquor seized during the ongoing drive against drug traffickers across the district was destroyed by setting on fire besides through heavy crushing construction machinery in the industrial area in outskirt of the city.
The SSP said that people often raised questions that the police seize drugs but after that the fate of the confiscated drugs stood unascertained. “So the police destroyed the huge quantity of the seized illict drugs in presence of the media and the notables”, he underlined adding that such exercise would continue time to time on the future.
To a question, the district police chief said that these drugs were recovered and seized by various police stations of the district including Mirpur city, Chakswari, Afzalpur, New City, Mangla, Thothal, Islamgarh.
