3-day training workshop on manuscript digitization concludes

ISLAMABAD, Oct 29 (APP):A three-day training workshop on manuscript digitization, jointly organized by the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) and the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML), concluded here on Wednesday.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with modern digital techniques for the preservation and accessibility of valuable manuscripts housed at the Pakistan Academy of Letters. The initiative marks a significant step toward safeguarding Pakistan’s literary and cultural heritage and fostering international collaboration in the field of manuscript preservation.
The sessions were conducted by Waleed Murad, Field Director (USA) at HMML, and Ahmad Atta, HMML’s Pakistan-based representative, Muhammad Zeeshan and Muneeb ur Rehman Qazi.
A large number of participants, including students and professionals from various institutions, attended the workshop. They received hands-on training in manuscript digitization, covering practical exercises such as lighting setup, camera configuration, and manuscript placement under the camera.
Speaking about the initiative, organizers highlighted the importance of building local capacity in digital preservation, ensuring that Pakistan’s literary treasures are not only protected but also made accessible to researchers worldwide.
It is pertinent to mention that the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML), based in Minnesota, USA, is a globally recognized non-governmental organization working with academic and literary institutions across the world for the preservation and documentation of manuscripts.
