SIALKOT, Oct 29 (APP):Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Shiren, visited the Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) on the special invitation of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in education, research, cultural exchange, and student development programmes.
The visit featured a vibrant celebration organised by the Department of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Directorate of Student Affairs, showcasing an art exhibition and a Chinese cultural show. The Consul General highly appreciated the creativity, talent, and enthusiasm displayed by the students.
Students of GCWUS presented a performance based on the poetry of Allama Iqbal and a special act symbolising Pak–China friendship, which captivated the audience and drew loud applause.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guest, describing Sialkot as the “City of Iqbal.” She highlighted the historic and cultural depth of Pakistan–China relations and proposed further collaboration in education, research, student exchanges, and scholarship opportunities. She also suggested establishing a Chinese Language Center and a Confucius Institute at GCWUS to promote mutual understanding and linguistic learning.
In his address, Consul General Zhao Shiren thanked the university for the warm reception and commended the students’ artistic and cultural presentations. He announced scholarships worth Rs. 1 million for GCWUS students and assured continued cooperation in future scholarships, research projects, and academic ventures.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing friendship, unity, and the strengthening partnership between the two nations.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir lauded the efforts of Dr. Shagufta Firdous, Director Student Affairs, Mr. Raza Rahman, Chairperson Department of Fine Arts, and the organizing team for the successful execution of the event, terming it a milestone in deepening Pak–China friendship and academic collaboration.
