LAHORE, Oct 29 (APP):Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has asked the CEOs of waste management companies (WMCs) to strictly implement the smog SOPs issued on the instructions of Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz.
He was addressing a video link meeting of CEOs held at the Civil Secretariat here on Wednesday.
Additional Secretary Development Ahmer Kaifi also attended.
While reviewing the performance of waste management companies,the provincial minister stressed that dust piled on the sides of busy roads should be cleaned with water daily.“If necessary,water should be sprayed more than once a day”, he urged. Zeeshan Rafique said that dust should be avoided at all costs during the cleaning process. “The monitoring staff, he went on, “should ensure implementation of anti-smog SOPs”.
The available human resources and machinery were also reviewed during the meeting. The Minister for Local Government directed greater caution in big cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Rawalpindi saying that during the smog season, focus should be on areas with high traffic. “In this regard, the Clean Punjab network will fully cooperate with each district administration”, he added. He said that the desired results can be achieved with the coordinated cooperation of the relevant departments. “The field staff should also keep an eye on those who burn garbage and crop residues”. He directed that waste management companies must upload details of operations in the central control room of the Local Government Department.
