LAHORE, Oct 28 (APP):Transforming the desert belt of Layyah, Kot Addu, and Muzaffargarh into a vibrant hub of motorsports, culture, and heritage tourism, the Punjab Tourism Department has announced the Thal Desert Rally 2025, scheduled from November 6 to 9.
The announcement was made by Secretary Tourism, Archaeology & Museums Punjab, Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, during a press conference held at the Lahore Museum on Tuesday. He said the event, organized under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, is part of the “Magnificent Punjab” Tourism Revival Vision. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb is overseeing the initiative, ensuring strong cultural preservation and community engagement.
Dr. Bhutta highlighted that the rally is not merely a motorsport event but a cultural and economic catalyst aimed at showcasing the desert’s living heritage, folk traditions, craftsmanship, and Sufi-rooted identity of South Punjab. He added that the Deputy Commissioners of Layyah, Kot Addu, and Muzaffargarh are extending full administrative, logistical, and hospitality support to ensure smooth organization of the rally and accompanying cultural melas that will empower local artists, folk performers, and desert communities.
He further stated that Punjab Police, Rangers, Rescue 1122, and the Health Department will provide comprehensive security and emergency services to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for participants and spectators.
Managing Director TDCP, Asim Raza, announced that around 100 drivers, including female racers and renowned champions such as Mir Nadir Magsi, Sahibzada Sultan Muhammad Ali, Zain Mehmood, and the Khakwani Brothers, will compete in the event. The rally will also feature folk music nights, camel and horse shows, tent-pegging, artisan bazaars, and desert heritage performances—promising a grand celebration of South Punjab’s culture and adventure spirit.
On the occasion, an MoU was signed between TDCP and Discover Pakistan and PakWheels to enhance collaboration for the rally. Under the partnership, Discover Pakistan will serve as the official media partner, while PakWheels will be the official digital media partner for the 10th Thal Desert Rally 2025.
