HYDERABAD, Oct 28 (APP):Commissioner Hyderabad, Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi, has expressed deep concern over the increasing spread of the dengue virus in the Hyderabad.
He emphasized that all departments must work in complete coordination to effectively curb the rising number of cases and protect citizens from the mosquito-borne disease.
A meeting on dengue prevention and control was held at the Commissioner’s Office, chaired by Commissioner Abbasi.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Zainul Abideen Memon, District Health Officer Dr. Pir Ghulam Hussain, Vice Chancellor Liaquat University Hospital Dr. Ikramullah, Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Dr. Akbar Dahri, Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases Dr. Sughun, Deputy DG Health Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, along with officers from the health department, district administration, and other relevant institutions.
During the meeting, representatives from the health department and medical experts briefed participants on the current dengue situation in Hyderabad, the preventive measures being implemented, and the status of fumigation and diagnostic efforts across hospitals.
Dr. Sughun presented a detailed report on the dengue virus transmission cycle and strategies for containment.
Commissioner Hyderabad instructed that anti-mosquito fumigation be carried out intensively at the neighborhood and household levels, ensuring both outdoor and indoor spraying is conducted effectively.
He directed that priority fumigation be carried out in all areas where positive dengue cases are reported daily, and that the Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad oversee a comprehensive fumigation drive across all union councils within one week.
He further ordered that mosquito nets (bed nets) be provided to all dengue patients admitted to government hospitals to prevent further transmission. Regular indoor fumigation should be conducted in all hospitals, and proper medical records and death histories must be maintained.
Emphasizing the importance of public awareness, Commissioner Hyderabad directed the health department to launch community-based health education campaigns at the neighborhood level so that citizens can recognize dengue symptoms and seek timely medical care.
He also instructed the health and other related departments to take practical measures to eliminate stagnant water in homes and public areas, which serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Furthermore, he called for the display of dengue warning signs and preventive information at hospitals to help guide and reassure patients and visitors.
It was informed in the meeting that focal persons have been appointed in all government hospitals, and a control room has been established to ensure better coordination, monitoring, and reporting of dengue-related activities.
Commissioner Hyderabad Fayyaz Hussain concluded by stressing that all relevant departments must work collectively and proactively to curb the spread of dengue and ensure that citizens are protected from preventable health risks.
