PESHAWAR, Oct 27 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday unanimously approved the inclusion of the Gojri language in the Assembly Rules of Business, marking a significant step towards promoting the province’s cultural and linguistic diversity.
The historic amendment was presented by former provincial law minister Aftab Alam and received unanimous support from all members of the House during the session chaired by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said that earlier, assembly proceedings were conducted in English, Urdu, and Pashto, later expanded to include Saraiki and Hindko. With the addition of Gojri, it has now become the sixth recognized language for use in the Assembly.
He said that Gojri is spoken widely across various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has been an integral part of the province’s culture and traditions for over twelve centuries.
The language, he noted, has a rich heritage of literature, philosophy, and poetry and is also used in radio broadcasting.
Members of the Assembly welcomed the decision and thanked the Speaker for supporting linguistic inclusion, terming the move a milestone in strengthening cultural harmony and mutual respect among the diverse communities of the province.
