China’s steadfast support reinforces significance of Kashmir issue: Ambassador Hashmi

BEIJING, Oct 27 (APP):Pakistan Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi on Monday thanked China for its understanding and steadfast support regarding Pakistan’s principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir issue.
China has clearly articulated its principled stance — that Jammu and Kashmir remains a disputed territory and that this dispute must be resolved in accordance with United Nations Charter, UN Security Council resolutions, international law and relevant bilateral agreements.
As a major global player, China’s support and clarity on this matter not only reinforce the significance of the issue but also sustain the hope that it will one day be resolved through diplomatic and peaceful means.
He made these remarks while addressing the participants of Kashmir Black Day event organized by the Pakistan Embassy Beijing, reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their quest for the right to self-determination, as enshrined in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
Ambassador Hashmi highlighted that China played a vital role in bringing the Kashmir issue before the United Nations Security Council in 2019 and 2020 — the first such discussions in more than six decades.
Having worked personally at the UN headquarters and witnessed the diplomatic processes, I can attest to the importance of reviving and maintaining Jammu and Kashmir’s visibility at the UN’s highest deliberative body, he added.
Pakistan continues to raise this issue across multiple international platforms — including the UN General Assembly, its various committees, as well as bodies such as UNESCO and the Geneva-based institutions.
However, discussions in the UN Security Council hold particular weight. Regardless of the format — whether open consultations or closed sessions — the very act of discussing Kashmir reinforces the fact that this dispute remains active and unresolved on the UN agenda. It also clearly invalidates India’s claim that Kashmir is merely an internal matter, he added.
Ambassador Hashmi said, “As we mark Kashmir Black Day, this occasion serves as a crucial reminder to continue raising awareness and engaging our Chinese friends in academia, think tanks, and the media. It is vital to highlight not only the historical context of this day but also the enduring relevance of the Kashmir issue.”
Most importantly, it underscores the fact that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are still awaiting the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination — a right enshrined in the UN Charter and reaffirmed by multiple UN Security Council resolutions.
Moreover, the continued non-resolution of the Kashmir dispute poses serious implications for peace and stability in South Asia and beyond, he stressed.
Messages from the President, the Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read on the occasion.
These messages strongly condemned Indian atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and urged the United Nations to ensure the long-awaited implementation of its resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir.
The event, held at the Embassy, brought together senior diplomats, journalists and embassy officials.
A documentary was screened, depicting the decades-long struggle of the Kashmiri people and the grave human rights violations committed by Indian occupation forces in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The embassy also arranged a photo exhibition on this occasion depicting Indian atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
