Sukkur Mayor highlights local progress on SDGs at UN Event

SUKKUR, Oct 24 (APP):Mayor of Sukkur and Spokesperson for the Sindh Government, Barrister Arslan Sheikh has attended a special event in Islamabad to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
The event, organized by the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Mohammed Yahya, brought together global leaders and representatives to discuss progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the handout issued here on Friday, Barrister Shaikh highlighted the Sindh Government’s initiatives to achieve the SDGs, including clean water supply, waste management, renewable energy, and urban welfare projects in Sukkur.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration with the United Nations to enhance development efforts.
Yahya praised local governments’ efforts, citing Sukkur as an inspiring example for other districts. The participants made a joint pledge to work together for a peaceful, equitable, and sustainable world, reaffirming their commitment to poverty eradication, environmental protection, education, healthcare, and women’s and children’s rights.
The event celebrated eight decades of the UN’s commitment to peace, human rights, and sustainable development, with a renewed focus on building a better, greener, and more humane world.
