RAWALPINDI, Oct 23 (APP):The City Police on Thursday apprehended five more suspects in connection with the Gawalmandi torture incident, following the earlier arrest of the main culprit, after a video of the episode surfaced on social media.
According to a Rawalpindi Police spokesman, initially no formal complaint had been lodged regarding the incident. However, after the video came to light, a case was registered on behalf of the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Rawalpindi Raza Tanveer Supra, in a video message, said the accused, who had been booked under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act, would be brought to justice and awarded exemplary punishment.
The spokesman said the City Police carried out overnight raids and took a total of six suspects into custody, including the prime accused.
City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani also reaffirmed that no person involved in the act of torture would escape the clutches of the law. “Violence against any citizen will not be tolerated,” he asserted, adding that the accused would be challaned with solid evidence to ensure they received due punishment.
The spokesman added that investigations and raids were continuing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
