Seminar at UoM stresses balanced population growth under ‘Tawazun’ narrative

LOWER DIR , Oct 23 (APP):Speakers at a seminar on the National Narrative on Population Growth (Tawazun) at the University of Malakand (UoM) on Thursday emphasized the need for adopting small family norms and aligning population growth with available resources to ensure socio-economic stability and a prosperous future.
Organized under the UNFPA Workplan 2025, the event highlighted that sustainable population management is key to achieving balance between resources and development at both national and community levels.
The event was attended by Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students, and officials from the Population Welfare Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
District Population Welfare Officer Lower Dir, Kinan Pasha delivered a detailed lecture on the district’s demographic profile and development indicators.
He explained that demographic data provide vital insights into age, gender, education, health, nutrition, morbidity, and occupational opportunities within the population.
Syed Imran Shah, Director Planning and guest speaker of the seminar, delivered a comprehensive lecture highlighting the objectives and importance of the Tawazun narrative.
He stated that the initiative seeks to achieve a balance between population and resources at both macro and micro levels.
He emphasized that parents must consider available resources and opportunities while fulfilling their responsibilities toward their children. The narrative promotes small family norms to ensure better living standards and sustainable development.
He further noted that the Tawazun narrative is a national effort to promote equilibrium between population growth and available resources, essential for socio-economic stability, improved health indicators, and a prosperous future.
He encouraged academia and students to play a proactive role in spreading awareness and adopting responsible family planning practices.
Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Mir Azam Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor of the UoM appreciated the initiative and underscored the role of academics and researchers in educating the public about population issues.
He said the new national narrative carries contemporary relevance in understanding the link between population growth and resource management.
He urged students to further disseminate the message of Tawazun for the country’s sustainable future.
At the conclusion, Kinan Pasha extended gratitude on behalf of Dr. Aneela Mehfooz Durrani, Secretary Population Welfare Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to the university administration, faculty, students, and organizers for their collaboration and support in making the seminar a success.
