Commissioner Karachi directs DCs to strictly implement official prices of tomatoes

KARACHI, Oct 22 (APP):Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi on Wednesday directed all the Deputy Commissioners to strictly implement the official prices of tomatoes and other essential commodities and take stern action against the illegal profiteers.
The city administration has started strict and coordinated monitoring, on the instructions of Syed Hassan Naqvi to ensure transparency in the tomatoes auction system in the vegetable market.
Assistant Commissioner Gulzar Hijri Irfan Nizamani has been appointed as the in-charge of monitoring.
Irfan Nizamani along with a representative of the Market Committee and officers of the Bureau of Supply, supervised the monitoring process.
Earlier, the Commissioner Karachi had called a meeting of DCs in his office on Monday after taking notice of the complaints of a sharp increase in the price of tomatoes in Karachi.
After reviewing the complaints and briefing about the tomato auction, it was decided to tighten the monitoring.
He said that strict monitoring is needed with all stakeholders in the vegetable market, so that a justified price of tomatoes can be fixed.
Deputy Commissioner East Abrar Jaffer, acting on these orders, took steps to start the monitoring process under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Gulzar Hijri Irfan Nizamani.
The DC East submitted a report to the Commissioner Karachi on Tuesday regarding the implementation of the monitoring system, in which it was stated that the monitoring system for the auction of all vegetables and fruits, including tomatoes, in the vegetable market has been tightened.
According to the report, the Assistant Commissioner, along with the officers of the Market Committee and the Bureau of Supply, started monitoring the auction of tomatoes.
According to the report, on Tuesday, the auction price of grade-I tomatoes was reduced from Rs 282 per kg to Rs 207, while grade-II tomatoes were fixed from Rs 254 to Rs 141 per kg.
According to the report, the local production of tomatoes is gradually increasing, it is hoped that the prices will return to normal in the next two days.
