Dar chairs high-level meeting on revival of national Hockey

ISLAMABAD, Oct 22 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday to deliberate on measures for the promotion and revival of hockey in Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Minister for Information, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Finance Tariq Bajwa, Director General Pakistan Sports Board and senior officials including the Secretary and Vice President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, a DPM’s Office news release said.

Senator Ishaq Dar emphasized that hockey holds a unique place in Pakistan’s national identity, recalling the country’s glorious history as a world champion in the sport. He underlined that hockey, as a source of national pride, deserves renewed investment, attention, and strategic planning to restore its international stature.

The Deputy Prime Minister directed the concerned ministries and the Pakistan Hockey Federation to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for the sport’s revival, focusing on grassroots talent development, modern coaching standards, infrastructure enhancement, and merit-based player growth.

He reaffirmed the government’s full commitment to supporting initiatives that would reinvigorate youth participation and elevate Pakistan’s presence on the global hockey stage.

“Reviving hockey is not just about winning matches; it’s about reclaiming our legacy and inspiring future generations,” Dar remarked.
