KARACHI, Oct 22 (APP): In a joint operation, the City district police and CPLC arrested three members of a gang involved in extortion activities under the guise of the Lyari Gang War’s Bahadur PMT, Farooq Maya and Hameed Baloch groups, according to SSP City on Wednesday.
The suspects were apprehended from the Kharadar area. Police recovered extortion slips and 10 mobile phones from their possession.
The arrested individuals were identified as Muhammad Ayub, Naveed, and Ghulam Qadir. Police said the suspects had been extorting traders from Sarafa Bazaar, fabric markets, and Bolton Market by issuing extortion slips.
Investigations revealed that the suspects used to visit shops pretending to work there, conducting a recce for about a week to gather details about the shop owners and traders. Later, they would threaten them using the names of Lyari gang war leaders to demand money.
Data retrieved from the seized mobile phones confirmed that the suspects had sent multiple threatening messages to traders and citizens.
Police described the arrested accused as habitual and professional extortionists, who were already on the wanted list.
DIGP South Asad Raza praised the efforts of the SHO and his team, announcing commendation certificates for their successful operation.
A case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway.
