LAHORE, Oct 21 (APP):Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman and Coordinator National Paigham-e-Aman Committee Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has said that mosques will be made centers for promoting peace, tolerance, and harmony to eliminate political and religious extremism from Pakistan.
He was addressing the Paigham-e-Pakistan Ulema Mashaykh Convention held here on Tuesday, organized jointly by the Pakistan Ulema Council and Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan. The convention was attended by leading scholars and Mashaykh representing all schools of thought.
In the joint declaration issued at the convention, the Ulema resolved to ensure full implementation of Paigham-e-Pakistan at every level and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting mosques and religious institutions.
Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi emphasized that promoting national unity and eradicating sectarianism are shared religious and national duties.
The declaration supported Pakistan’s right to defend its borders, terming any violation of sovereignty or terrorist activity from Afghan soil as unacceptable. It appealed to Afghan scholars not to allow their soil to be used for attacks against Pakistan and called for strengthening brotherly ties between both nations.
The participants condemned recent violent incidents in Muridke, and reiterating that no one is above the law. They urged all political and religious leaders to remove violent elements from their ranks and work strictly within the framework of the Constitution.
Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi also reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm stance on Palestine, supporting the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. He lauded the Pak–Saudi Arabia defense agreement as a major diplomatic success, reflecting Pakistan’s historic role in safeguarding the sanctity of Haramain Al-Sharifain.
The convention concluded with the announcement that Paigham-e-Pakistan conferences will be held across the country. A 50-member delegation of Ulema and Mashaykh will soon meet national leadership, including the President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chief of Army Staff, Chief Minister, and Governors, to present a practical plan for the implementation of Paigham-e-Pakistan.
