LAYYAH, Oct 21 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Amir Abid Awan chaired a meeting to review the implementation of the Punjab Chief Minister’s School Meal Programme in Layyah district. The initiative aims to improve students’ health and nutrition through the regular provision of milk and biscuits in government schools.
It was reported during the meeting that 798 schools across the district have been selected under the programme, benefiting more than 99,000 students. As part of the nutrition drive launched by the Punjab government, each student will receive milk and biscuits daily.
In a move to ensure environmental sustainability, the meeting also approved the installation of recycling bins in all participating schools. Under the supervision of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), five types of bins will be placed to promote waste segregation and raise awareness about recycling among students.
DC Amir Abid Awan directed that income generated from recycling used milk packs and wrappers should be reinvested in the welfare and improvement of the respective schools.
The meeting was attended by the CEO Education, District Education Officers, and other concerned officials, who provided detailed briefings on departmental performance and practical steps for smooth programme execution.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Awan said that the Chief Minister’s initiative would not only enhance children’s physical and mental development but also instill values of cleanliness, responsibility, and environmental care in the younger generation.
