Olive sector to become new milestone for Pakistan’s economy: Rana Tanveer

ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP):Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain said here on Tuesday that the olive sector could become a new milestone for Pakistan’s economy by ensuring self-sufficiency, boosting exports, and strengthening the rural economy.
Addressing the ‘Pakistan Olive Summit 2.0’, the minister said that Pakistan possessed vast potential to achieve self-sufficiency in olive production, adding that olive cultivation would empower rural communities and create new employment opportunities.
He said that olive oil could become Pakistan’s strong export brand, which would not only earn foreign exchange but also promote sustainable agriculture practices across the country.
Rana Tanveer said that farmers would be trained in modern olive cultivation techniques to enhance productivity, while the private sector’s participation in the olive industry was a welcome step toward growth.
He emphasized that sustainable agriculture and food safety were among the government’s top national priorities, adding that there were vast opportunities for investment in the olive sector.
The minister noted that through modern research and advanced technology, olive production could be increased manifold, while public-private partnerships would accelerate the development of the industry.
He said that safe and sustainable food was the guarantee of Pakistan’s future, and the olive industry would open new avenues of prosperity for the country.
“We will make olive the identity of Pakistan,” he added, expressing confidence that the sector’s development would help Pakistan secure a prominent position in the region.
Rana Tanveer said that effective policies and collaboration would further strengthen the olive industry, while young farmers could play a key role in promoting olive cultivation nationwide.
