PESHAWAR, Oct 21 (APP):Preparations have begun to reopen the Pakistan-Afghanistan Torkham trade crossing, with Customs authorities directing all staff to report immediately to the Torkham terminal.
According to Customs sources on Tuesday, a cargo scanning machine has been reinstalled at the terminal to facilitate the clearance of trade vehicles. The scanner had been removed on the night between October 11 and 12 due to heightened border tensions.
Officials said the Torkham border crossing had been closed eight days ago following escalations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Afghan security sources reported that hundreds of passengers have gathered on the Afghan side of the border after receiving information that the crossing is about to reopen.
