FAISALABAD, Oct 20 (APP):Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh has said that efforts have been expedited to develop embroidery into a key segment of the value-added textile sector as it has immense potential to boost national exports and create a large number of employment opportunities.
He was talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Embroidery Machine Association at FCCI Complex.
He said that the embroidery sector is largely falling under SME category. Despite its export potential, this sector is facing financial difficulties, rising production cost and higher prices of imported machinery, he said and assured that coordinated efforts would be accelerated to address challenges of this sector on priority basis.
He said that until a few years ago, more than 500,000 people were directly or indirectly linked with embroidery sector as it was a major source of employment generation.
He said that FCCI would extend all possible support to help embroidery industrialists explore new international markets and acquire high-tech machinery to improve product quality and competitiveness.
Earlier, Association Chairman Rana Abdul Ghaffar congratulated Farooq Yousaf Sheikh on his election as FCCI President and expressed confidence that he would play a vital role in resolving issues faced by the embroidery industry.
He suggested that the embroidery sector should be officially recognized as part of the SME sector to enable access to government-sponsored low-interest loans.
Rana Abdul Ghaffar also recommended the appointment of Malik Ali Murtaza as convener of FCCI’s Embroidery Standing Committee for the upcoming year.
He thanked the FCCI President for his commitment and assured his full cooperation in advancing the cause of embroidery sector.
