KARACHI, Oct 20 (APP):In a resounding call for evidence-based governance and sustainable development, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) Karachi observed World Statistics Day on Monday with an awareness walk led by Chief Statistical Officer and Divisional Coordinator Faraz Muslim.
The event underscored the urgent need to elevate the role of statistics in shaping national policy and eradicating poverty.
A large number of PBS employees and citizens from diverse walks of life took part in the walk, carrying placards and banners that emphasized the significance of accurate data collection. The rally marched from the PBS Regional Office in Karachi, serving as a public demonstration of commitment to data integrity and statistical transparency.
Speaking at the occasion, Faraz Muslim stressed that statistics are not just numbers — they are the foundation of informed decision-making and socio-economic progress. He noted that without reliable data, policies remain speculative and disconnected from the realities of citizens’ lives.
“The objective of celebrating World Statistics Day is to raise awareness that better data means better lives,” said Muslim. “Sound statistical data is essential for driving effective governance, efficient resource allocation, and improved public services.”
Highlighting recent accomplishments, he pointed to the successful completion of the National Population Census, followed by the Agricultural and Economic Censuses, all conducted by PBS with efficiency and precision. He further revealed that ongoing surveys are being undertaken to strengthen transparency and accountability across governance systems.
World Statistics Day, observed globally on October 20, aims to promote the power of statistics in guiding nations towards sustainable futures. In Pakistan, the day was marked with a renewed pledge to ensure that data is not ignored, misused, or sidelined, but rather placed at the core of national development strategies.
