SIALKOT, Oct 19 (APP): Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) President Syed Ehtisham Mazhar Gilani, stressed the need for early completion of University of Applied Engineering and Emerging Technologies (UAEET) in the city.
Talking to APP, he said that timely completion of UAEET would play a vital role in addressing the technical challenges faced by the local industrial sector.
He said that local export-oriented industries require continuous technical innovation and skilled manpower, which could only be achieved through a strong collaboration between academia and industry.
The SCCI President said that University of Applied Engineering and Emerging Technology (UAEET) project had not been completed despite the passage of 15 years, and the local industry was facing a severe shortage of skilled workers.
He urged the authorities concerned to expedite the remaining work on the project so that
youth could gain access to advanced engineering education and contribute effectively to
the region’s industrial growth.
He said that early completion of the engineering university project would not only strengthen the industry of Sialkot but also enhance the country’s foreign exchange.
Mazhar Gilani said that in order to equip the industry with modern technology, “we currently need graduates and postgraduates from engineering departments who can work on (R&D) to improve and simplify the quality of chemicals used in dyeing leather, motorbike protective suits, guards jackets, sports goods, clothing and dyeing”.
The UAEET would strengthen the city’s export industry by providing quality education
to local students and open new avenues of research and development, he added.
