Afghan proclaimed offender killed in Mansehra police encounter, weapon recovered

MANSEHRA, Oct 17 (APP): An Afghan robber and proclaimed offender was killed in a police encounter in the jurisdiction of Police Station Saddar Mansehra here on Friday while his three accomplices managed to flee the scene under the cover of darkness.
According to police sources, a general hold-up was being conducted in the area when two motorcycles carrying four individuals were signaled to stop for a routine search. Instead of complying, the suspects attempted to escape and opened indiscriminate fire on the police party with intent to kill.
Police retaliated in self-defense, resulting in the death of one assailant identified as Yousaf alias Cheechee, son of Zari Khan, an Afghan national and resident of village Jalu, within the same police jurisdiction.
Upon verification, the deceased was found to be a notorious proclaimed offender, wanted in murder case No. 951 dated December 19, 2023, under sections 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, registered at Police Station Saddar Mansehra. He had allegedly entered a house in Shahiliya along with accomplices for the purpose of robbery and shot dead a 26-year-old man named Shoaib before fleeing.
Police recovered the weapon used in the crime from the dead suspect’s possession, while a comprehensive search and strike operation has been launched in the surrounding areas to trace and arrest his absconding accomplices.
