PESHAWAR, Oct 16 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday emphasized that ensuring food security was a shared responsibility of all segments of society, not just of the government or any single institution.
In his special message on the occasion of World Food Day, the Governor said that equal, safe and affordable access to food is the basic right of every citizen, and safeguarding this right requires coordinated efforts at both the federal and provincial levels.
Highlighting the significance of agriculture, Governor Kundi said that it forms the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and serves as the livelihood for millions of families.
He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s fertile land and natural resources have great potential to contribute significantly to the country’s food needs.
The Governor pointed out that climate change, inflation, and natural disasters have worsened the food crisis, calling for comprehensive planning and practical measures to address the challenge.
Referring to development initiatives, he termed the Chashma Lift Canal Project a “game changer” for food security in the province. The project, he said, would irrigate vast tracts of land in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, boosting agricultural productivity and helping reduce food shortages across the country.
Governor Kundi also drew attention to the serious issue of child malnutrition and urged joint efforts by the government and the public to overcome it.
He underscored the need to curb food wastage, promote climate-resilient farming, and ensure efficient use of water and land resources.
He concluded by stressing that policies must prioritize measures that enhance agricultural output, protect vulnerable communities, and ensure that “no child goes to bed hungry.”
