ISLAMABAD, Oct 16 (APP):Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain on Thursday reiterated the firm resolve of the government to empower farmers with modern technologies, promoting climate-smart and sustainable agriculture, investing in research and innovation through institutions to ensure food security and safety in the country.
In his message on the occasion of World Food Day 2025, the minister said that the government was striving to develop high-yield and climate-resilient crop varieties, improve seed quality, conserve water, and strengthen value chains to ensure that the benefits of progress reach every farmer and every household.
Today, as the world unites to mark World Food Day 2025, we are reminded that food is more than a basic need, it is the foundation of life, dignity, and progress. This year’s theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” beautifully captures the essence of our collective duty: to join hands across communities, institutions, and nations to build a world free from hunger and malnutrition, he added.
Food security, the minister said, is not just a dream but a shared goal that demands compassion, vision, and action. “Pakistan, blessed with fertile soils, abundant resources, and resilient farmers, stands at the crossroads of opportunity. Yet, we face undeniable challenges — from climate change and water scarcity to post-harvest losses and global market pressures. These challenges call for innovation, unity, and unwavering resolve,” he remarked.
He said the government’s vision is clear to transform the country into a state where no child sleeps hungry, where every farmer earns with pride, and where food systems are strong enough to feed both the present and the future. “Through partnerships with provincial governments, the private sector, and international development organizations, we are moving towards that vision step by step, hand in hand.”
On this World Food Day, he said “I call upon all Pakistanis — policymakers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and citizens — to work together for a future where better food leads to better health, better livelihoods, and a better tomorrow. Let us nurture our soil, value our farmers, and protect our natural resources. For in doing so, we secure not only our sustenance but also our nation’s strength and stability.”
